Dr. Yongqian Liu is a Professor at the New Energy School of North China Electric Power University, the Vice Director of the Chinese Wind Energy Association, a member of the Strategy Committee of the European Academy of Wind Energy, and the Regional Editor (Asia) of IET Renewable Power Generation.
He obtained a PhD in Production Automation from Nancy 1 University in France and a PhD in Hydropower Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China in 2002 through a joint PhD program. He received his Master's Degree in 1992 and Bachelor's Degree in 1986, both in Hydropower Engineering, from North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power.
He was a founder of the Bachelor's program "Wind Energy and Power Engineering" and has led over 50 national and international research projects on wind and hydro power, including serving as the Principal Investigator of the China-Norway joint research project: CONWIND (Research on Smart Operation Control Technologies for Offshore Wind Farm). Currently, he is the principal investigator of the National Key R&D Program Project "Key Technologies and Software Development for Multi-scenario Wind Farm Planning and Design." His academic achievements include 200 peer-reviewed research papers, 35 invention patents, and a National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. He was a Lead Author of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Special Report on Renewable Energy and Climate Change Mitigation.
